"We're not made of sugar"
"It'll be right tomorrow"
"I'm looking forward to a mountain of peas with my pie"
Motivation comes in all forms and when you dig deep it's often surprising what can be achieved. Maximum respect to the 45 riders who endured the long exhausting hours of rain on Saturday as they completed the first half of the Calder Divide Trail.
It did turn out alright. Everyone got back to the community centre in Mytholmroyd, everyone had a tale to tell, everyone got pie n peas and a badge.
The rain jackets will dry out, the 'waterproof' gloves can go back in the box and we'll all catch up on our sleep at some point.
So I'm proud to have met such a life affirming group of people who stuck to their plan of having a weekend on the trails in Yorkshire.
At their core these riders know what so many people forget: every day is a blessing and at this moment in time we're privileged to be able to go and ride when we want to.
There are many who can't and the future is uncertain so it's best to embrace the small events in your own backyard and live life to the full.
